Introducing the open folder icon style and inset icon!

Note: Freeware and Lite users can use the Open folder icon style, but do not have access to the inset image and mask features.

We’re happy to let you know that version 1.1.0.13 brings the open folder icon style and the ability to select an inset icon. Now you’ll be able to replicate the folder content preview icons in Windows, but with a lot more glamour!

To use these features, first enable the new Use open folder icon style option on the Options tab.

Notice how on the Home tab the preview icon changes to the “open folder” icon. Next, click “Select inset image…”.

Browse for and select a supported image on your computer. We support BMP, ICO, JPG, PNG and TIF. The image dimensions however must be at least 115px by 115px.

The image will be layered into the preview, ready to apply.

Windows natively also masks its “open folder” icons, for example:

Windows 11 Folder Color Changer lets you easily create a similar mask by enabling “Apply mask to ‘open folder’ icon with inset” on the Options tab:

When you enable this option, notice on the Home tab how the mask gets layered in as well:

And this is the result when applied to a folder:

Please note: To avoid intellectual property complaints from Microsoft, the Windows 11 Folder Color Changer “open folder” icon and mask deviate slightly from the native version. Also, we will not be including any inset icons with the app, but you can find thousands of inset icons on Icon8 and other websites.
