My IconCache folder is quite large. Why? Can I delete the folder?

As you customize more folder icons, the IconCache folder tends to grow over time. Windows 11 Folder Color Changer doesn’t keep track of your folder customizations by default, so the app won’t know if you move, delete, or re-customize folders unless you turn on “Maintain folder database”. This means some old/unused icons might stick around.

Deleting icons from the IconCache folder will reset the folder icon for any folders that used those icons. If you delete the whole folder, all folder icons will revert to their native state.

None of this will harm your computer, but you’ll have to redo any icon customizations you lose.

If you have the folder database enabled, you can click “Verify database integrity” to help you identify issues.
